Hypnotherapy Success Rates for Smoking Cessation  

Research comparing many different studies of Hypnotherapy has shown that on average smokers are five times more likely to break the habit with hypnosis than willpower alone. Hypnotherapy, in general, is also proven to be more than twice as effective compared with any other method to stop the habit. If you really want to stop smoking, then one or two sessions of hypnotherapy could be all you need. 


The Method

I work with the best available method for smoking cessation, called CBH - Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy. CBH is a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Hypnotherapy. The key elements of this approach are: 


  • Weaken the Habit (decrease reactivity)

  • Increase Motivation

  • Teach and Rehearse Coping Skills

  • Relapse Prevention  


Of all psychotherapies, CBT has the strongest success record and consequently is the treatment of choice under the NHS for many conditions. CBT aims to modify thinking and behaviour to bring about positive changes in mood and emotional state. 

Clinical hypnotherapy works by taking you into a relaxed state of increased suggestibility where your critical mind ‘takes a break’ and we can work directly and deeply with your subconscious to create new beliefs, patterns and habits. Hypnotherapy has been recognized and endorsed for several conditions by the British Medical Association and the British Medical Journal.

The Smoking Cessation Session

First, we have a phone consultation where I will assess your habit, motivation and other factors. Going forward with the program, I'll provide you with your welcome pack so you can prepare for our session. 

The session takes 2 hours and we'll go through many techniques to break your habit once and for all, such as:


  • Thought-Stopping to banish cravings and thoughts about smoking

  • Self-Monitoring and Mindfulness Training

  • Understanding the Stress-Smoke Cycle

  • Asses Pattern, High-Risk Situations

  • Teach you some easy-to-use copying skills 

  • Self-Hypnosis

  • Motivational Techniques

  • Focus on Decision

  • Habit Reversal 

  • Identifying triggers for Relapse Prevention​​​​

During hypnosis, I'll work on your subconscious by giving you the skills, the belief and the motivation to stop smoking immediately and permanently.  ​

Post- Treatment

After the session, you'll receive the"Easily Staying a Non-Smoker pack" which includes a self-hypnosis recording, an info sheet with the techniques we've used so you can use at home, as well as a "fail-safe" product in case you need extra support.
